Things to Do Before a Concert at Gothic Theatre: Exploring Downtown Englewood, Mutiny Comics & Vision Comics

If you’re heading to a concert at Gothic Theatre or grabbing dinner near Moe’s Original BBQ in Englewood, Colorado, don’t rush straight to the venue. Downtown Englewood has become a great destination for comic book fans, collectors, and anyone looking for something unique to do before a show.

In this episode of Denver Metal Things, we spend the day exploring Broadway in Englewood, stopping at local restaurants, checking out comic shops, hunting for rare collectibles, and sharing why this area deserves more attention from Denver concertgoers.

A Walk Through Downtown Englewood

Located just south of Denver along Broadway, Downtown Englewood offers a surprisingly walkable collection of restaurants, coffee shops, vintage stores, and specialty retailers. Convenient public parking behind many of the businesses makes it easy to park once and explore the neighborhood on foot.

Because it’s only a short walk to both Gothic Theatre and Moe’s Original BBQ, this area makes an excellent place to spend a few hours before attending a concert.

Lunch at Sukiya Ramen

Every good adventure starts with food.

For this visit, we stopped at Sukiya Ramen, ordering their Tonkotsu Ramen. While there are multiple Sukiya locations around the Denver metro area, this location continues to deliver consistently flavorful ramen, making it an easy recommendation if you’re looking for a meal before a show.

Visiting the New Mutiny Comics & Coffee

One of the primary destinations for this episode was Mutiny Comics & Coffee, a longtime favorite among Denver comic fans.

The current Englewood location is considerably smaller than the original Broadway store. Visitors will still find:

  • Independent comic books
  • Community zines
  • Pinball machines
  • Coffee and café seating
  • Local community information

While the new location places much more emphasis on being a neighborhood café and gathering place, longtime fans of the original store may notice a reduced selection of comics, books, collectibles, and arcade games.

If you’re expecting the larger comic selection of the previous location, it’s worth adjusting your expectations. If you’re looking for a relaxed coffee shop with comics and local culture, Mutiny still offers a welcoming atmosphere.

More Than Just Concert Venues

One of the best parts of exploring Downtown Englewood is discovering the smaller businesses that line Broadway.

Vintage stores, restaurants, specialty shops, and local businesses create an enjoyable area to wander before concert doors open. Instead of waiting in line outside the venue, you can spend the afternoon exploring one of Denver’s more underrated neighborhoods.

On the Hunt for Rare A-Team Collectibles

This episode also offers a look inside one of my favorite collections.

I’ve spent years building a custom display dedicated to The A-Team, complete with custom presentation cases, character cards, and die-cast vehicles.

The goal for this trip was finding four particularly difficult action figures representing the villains from the original television series. Because these figures were produced in smaller numbers than the main characters, they’re much harder to locate and often command significantly higher prices.

Collector hunts like these are always part treasure hunt, part nostalgia, and that’s exactly what makes searching local comic stores so much fun.

Vision Comics: One of Colorado’s Best Comic Shops

The highlight of the day was a visit to Vision Comics, located just south of Downtown Englewood.

For comic collectors and pop culture fans, Vision Comics is packed with inventory that extends far beyond comic books.

Inside you’ll find:

  • Thousands of comic books
  • Vintage and modern action figures
  • Extensive Star Wars collectibles
  • Horror collectibles
  • Spawn figures
  • Graphic novels
  • X-Files comics
  • Toys and memorabilia
  • A dedicated horror-themed basement filled with statues, figures, apparel, and collectibles

One unique feature is the store’s themed display areas, including a memorable horror room featuring Frankenstein alongside featured comic releases.

Whether you’re a serious collector or simply enjoy browsing, it’s easy to spend an hour or more exploring every corner of the store.

The Search Pays Off

After asking one of the employees about vintage A-Team figures, the search finally paid off.

Hidden among the action figures were exactly what I’d been looking for—the elusive villain figures needed to complete my growing collection.

Finding collectibles in person is still one of the most rewarding parts of the hobby. You never know what you’ll discover until you start looking.

Final Thoughts

If you’re attending a concert at Gothic Theatre, Moe’s Original BBQ, or simply looking for something different to do around Denver, Downtown Englewood offers far more than many people realize.

Between excellent restaurants, walkable shopping, Mutiny Comics & Coffee, and the incredible selection at Vision Comics, the neighborhood makes for a perfect afternoon destination before live music begins.

Whether you’re into comics, horror collectibles, vintage toys, Star Wars memorabilia, or simply exploring Colorado’s local businesses, this episode highlights several places worth adding to your list.
